Home Care Keeps You Independent
There is a common idea that using home care means an individual is no longer independent. The reality is that home care encourages independence for those that need services. Every year, approximately 12 million Americans receive home health care services (Market, 2025). Receiving home care is a common practice for many individuals.
What is Home Care?
Home care delivers essential services, known as Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), to an individual within their personal residence. The scope of services offered spans from companionship to assistance with bathing and grooming. Sunlight Senior Care employs three categories of caregivers to provide these specialized services:
Companion
Homemaker
Personal Care Attendant
Sunlight Senior Care will even employ a family caregiver if they meet our hiring requirements. Home care services are typically utilized by individuals who are:
Elderly
Disabled
Recovering from surgery or injury
Chronically ill
However, anyone requiring assistance with daily living activities is eligible to receive care. Sunlight Senior Care services are offered as often as needed day or night.
Home Care Focuses on Independence
Common concerns among individuals receiving in-home care include:
The treatment and respect shown to their private residence.
The experience of feeling patronized or infantilized (Azocar et al., 2021).
Caregivers receive comprehensive training to deliver services in a dignified and respectful manner. We recognize that, because services are provided within a client's own home, the space itself is an extension of the client. The home will be treated with the same high level of respect afforded to all individuals.
It is also a priority of ours that you are spoken to as the dignified person you are. Whether it be caregiver or office staff, we operate with respect towards anyone we come into contact with.
Making Sure Your Voice is Heard
We WANT to know what you are looking for from home care. The best thing you can do is communicate with your care team if you have any questions, concerns, or requests. You can call us 24/7 for emergencies so that we can be there for you.
Our team will also do their part to make sure you are being heard. When we first start services, we have a sit down “sofa visit” to go over what you are looking for from us. We make it our mission to learn about you and your lifestyle so we can do what it takes to keep your day-to-day how you want it. No caregiver will enter the home until they have been made aware of the services you need and what you prioritize.
